E-Mail

E-Mail - General Information

All students, employees and guests automatically get a personal TUM e-mail address. You can use this address as lifelong forwarding address.

Exchange

E-mail, calendars, shared mailboxes and more: all information about Exchange.

Mailinglists

How to create automatic mailinglists.

User Certificates

Certificates for users are the digital equivalent to an identity card: using such certificates, users can digitally proof their identity, for example in e-mails.

Shared Mailboxes and Calendars

Creating group calendars and shared mailboxes with the TUMonline functional objects.

Storage

Online Storage (NAS)

The Leibniz Rechenzentrum (LRZ) provides a secure, highly available data storage (= NAS). Every TUM member gets a personal storage space. Institutions can order a project storage.

Internet

Internet Services of the LRZ

General information of the Leibniz-Rechenzentrum (LRZ) on MWN internet services.

TUMonline

TUMonline

Here you can find information and manuals for TUMonline, the campus management system of TUM.

Software & Hardware

Campus Agreements & Software Licenses

Leibniz-Rechenzentrum (LRZ) has campus agreements and software licenses in place with numerous manufacturers, which in most cases allow the TUM employees to get products at no cost or at extremely reasonable cost. Go to campus agreements

Coordination of Large Equipment, CIP and WAP Funding Requests

The IT Operations (ITO) of the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology is responsible for coordinating and managing the budget for the funding programs run by the German Research Association (DFG), which is engaged in funding scientific instruments and equipment, among them the CIP/WAP funding requests. Further information

Electronic Device Disposal: Secure Hard Disk Destruction

TUM offers the destruction of storage media such as hard drives, magnetic tape, memory cards, USB sticks and DVDs at no charge. Further information

Web

Domains

Here you can learn how to arrange an internet domain.

Managed Web Servers

For TUM Chairs, institutes, institutions and projects, LRZ offers the possibility to set up and operate web servers under proprietary domains.

Arranging a website

Here you can learn how to arrange a a website for your organization.

Web Design

The TUM Web Styleguide presents guidelines for designing online systems.

Network

Network Backbone

All TUM buildings, as well as LMU, the Munich University of Applied Sciences and the Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences, are connected via the Munich Research Network (MWN), which also provides access to the German Research Network (DFN) and the Internet.

Local Network Planning

The IT Service Center offers local network planning assistance at no cost through the LRZ.

Network Management

The IT Service Center offers management and maintenance of the organization's network infrastructures (active and passive network components) through the LRZ.

Firewall/Routing-Filter

Upon request, a firewall service can be installed at no cost at the transit points between the local network and external networks (other organisations, MWN, Internet).

Public Network Access during Events

For events such as conferences, seminars and workshops, the network can be set up so that all participants have Internet and MWN access without validating or installing VPN client software.

Identity Management

Central Directory

The directory can be used to access up-to-date personal data, as well as to customize restricted access to legal and organizational elements of your own system. At the simplest level, the identity management sys-tem can be used as an authentication and authorizing instance, as well as for inquiries related to data about specific people.

If required and with the appropriate clearances based on data privacy laws, all or part of the databases can be transferred to your own systems.

Active Directory (AD)

The central active directory (AD) is provided by the LRZ. TUM utilizes it to manage identities, rights, computers and IT resources. The users and groups are extracted from TUMonline for provisioning by the AD. Rights management is handled by local administrators who assume this responsibility within their own organisation. Proprietary hardware, such as data storage for the department, can be connected at any time.

Server

Server Housing & Cluster Node Housing

LRZ offers monitored operation, or so-called attended housing, of proprietary Linux servers or Linux clusters that are housed in the LRZ computing center. LRZ is responsible for the hardware and the maintenance of the operating system while the client is responsible for the application.

Virtual Windows and Linux Servers

TUM offers highly-available virtual server instances that are housed in a high-security section of the LRZ computing center. Depending on the desired operating system (SLES/Debian/Windows Server), LRZ also handles the installation, maintenance and day-to-day operation.

Windows Server Update Service (WSUS)

The LRZ offers the use of MS Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) for Windows computers of the MWN.

LRZ Compute Cloud

The LRZ Compute Cloud is designed as an Infrastructure-as-a-Service offering based on the OpenNebula open source solution. Compute Cloud is a flexible, simple and fast way to adapt computing resources dur-ing potential peak loads.

Clients

Managed Windows Computer (TUM PC)

The IT Service Center, in conjunction with the LRZ, provides a system for administering managed Windows PCs. Organisations can define various PC types and software packages, such as admin or laboratory PCs, which are integrated in the active directory. The software is automatically installed, administered and updated through SCCM.

Managed Apple Computer (MWN-MAC)

The LRZ provides a system for administering managed Apple computers under OSX in the Munich Scientifc Network (MWN). With these tools you can reduce the administration of the life cycle management for your chair MACs to a minimum.

Client Management (Baramundi)

Several areas of the university use the Baramundi software for client management as a supplement to the managed TUM-PC. Although these areas have barely been networked to date, cooperation between the various areas of TUM certainly makes sense, particularly when it comes to configuration problems or contract negotiations.

If you use Baramundi and are interested in internal TUM cooperation, please contact Mr Robert Dietl at the Civil, Geo and Environmental Engineering Department.

TeamViewer

The Teamviewer program allows the system administrator to access a computer for remote service.

Certificates

User Certificates

Certificates for users are the digital equivalent to an identity card: using such certificates, users can digitally proof their identity, for example in e-mails.

Server Certificates

In collaboration with DFN-PKI, TUM issues server certificates for a large variety of use cases.
