Interactive Room Information System (IRIS)

As part of the IRIS project, since 2012 select university rooms were equipped with touch screens installed adjacent to the doors that students can use to manage the rooms and communicate with other room users.
“Intelligent Room Management”, a project launched by student representatives and Dr. Christian Kredler, is just one concrete example of how this system can be used. The touch screens, which will be installed in classrooms, seminar facilities and workspaces for group activities, offer students the opportunity to mark a room as occupied while they are using it. This information flows back to the room booking system in TUMonline where the reservation is visible for all interested users.
This makes it easier for students to find a place to study or work. The availability of rooms furnished with this system will be displayed on a website. In addition, the integrated TUMonline search function that allows you locate available rooms/resources can access this information in real-time. The touch screen can also be used to display other information such as U-Bahn (subway) schedules, cafeteria menu, Munich public transportation system alerts or weather warnings. The wide range of potential applications is far from being exhausted.
